Tara Polar Station Officially Baptised - Get Ready to Apply in Our Upcoming Transnational Access Call!
We are excited to share that the Tara Polar Station (TPS), part of the POLARIN project, was officially baptised last week!
TPS is an innovative hybrid polar scientific base, designed by architect Olivier Petit and the Tara Ocean Foundation. Combining an oceanographic research vessel and a drifting polar station, it was built to advance polar science and deepen our understanding of climate change impacts in the Arctic.
Construction of the station began in May 2023, and it was officially inaugurated on 24 April 2025 in Lorient, France. With preparations underway for its first transpolar drift starting in 2026, TPS stands ready to support groundbreaking Arctic research.
As part of POLARIN, the Tara Polar Station will be available for researchers through our upcoming Transnational Access Call. We are proud to have such a cutting-edge facility in the project and look forward to enabling new discoveries through this exceptional infrastructure!
